Wasteland – from waste to architecture 16.6 2018 - 20.1 2019

Imagine a world where there is no scarcity of resources. A world where our consumption, production and construction does not have a negative impact on our climate. Where waste does not exist and economic growth and sustainability are each other’s prerequisites instead of opposites. That world is real. Welcome to Wasteland – a world where waste is transformed into architecture!

The modern city stands as proof of mankind’s great achievements. Built, renovated and expanded in a time of seemingly infinite resources and production possibilities. A world where everything old and natural has been replaced by new building materials, imported from distant countries. The consequence? The built environment has left an enormous environmental footprint and is responsible for 40% of global carbon emissions alone.

Wasteland shows how innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration can help alleviate the massive global climate challenges we face. In the exhibition you will experience the most commonly used building materials – concrete, bricks, wood, plastic, glass and metal – and see how they can be used again and again with new designs, functions and value.

Wasteland is produced by Danish Lendager Group in collaboration with Vandalorum. Lendager is one of Europe's leading architectural offices in sustainable construction, strategy, upcycling and material development. The exhibition is based on one of today's major global challenges - that the world population is estimated to have increased by 2 billion before 2050. The majority of the population will live in urban areas, which greatly accelerates housing demand.
