Amanda Cardell's work often takes its roots in places and environments where, like an anthropologist or field worker, she immerses herself and delves into cultural, historical and societal layers. For Cardell, interaction and dialogue with both the viewer and the surroundings is an important part of artistic practice. Her often large-scale plastic-related works revolve around participation and inclusion for humans as well as nature. In parallel with the textile designs of fiber-based materials on display, the artist has also delved into the collection of the Småland Art Archive and searched for the voice of nature among the extensive number of graphic sheets.
Amanda Cardell (1972) was born in Ljungby, now lives and works in Stockholm and Hälsingland. Cardell was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Trondheim, Norway as well as at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent, Belgium. Cardell has a strong connection to Småland and has been an artist in residence in the region of Kronoberg and had a residency at Elin Wägner's Lilla Björka. She has exhibited at Alvesta Exhibition Hall and done design assignments for Kulturhuset Grand in Ljungby. Cardell has also exhibited nationally and internationally at institutions such as Eskilstuna Art Museum, Centre Culturel Suedois in Paris and Vigeland Museum in Oslo.
