Painting is a way of thinking for Pajak and the paintings are an ongoing dialogue with female predecessors. The conversations are a source of inspiration but also a way to weave in all those women and voices that have not been included in the patriarchal representation of history. The exhibition at Småland Art Archive in Vandalorum showcases works created in dialogue with Hilma af Klint, Georgia O'Keeffe and Hélène Cixous. The exhibition is Pajak's first solo presentation at a major art institution and follows her artistry over the past five years.
With the title of the exhibition Falling out of the sea Pajak wants to convey a contradictory and vertiginous state that can be likened to a floating between time and space. The act of falling has become central to her artistic process, and she sees potential in the uncertain gap that it provokes in a chain of events. Pajak lets herself fall, she picks up fragments that she lets float freely in an abstract vacuum and continues to seek a reality on the border between dream and fiction.
Anna Pajak (b. 1992 in Stockholm) lives and works outside Tingsryd in Småland. She received her master's degree from The Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm 2020. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in Sweden, Norway, Germany and France. She was awarded the 2025 Ann-Margret Lindell Scholarship for young artists working with graphics as well as Iaspis residency at the ISCP in New York.
