With the help of illusion, and through ingenious craftsmanship done by hand with scalpel and glue, flat surfaces take up space and unfold in the room. The works are referred to by the artist as “non-places, environments between dream and reality”, which is perhaps not surprising given how temporary they seem, even in reality. Johansson often photographs and stays in the parts of the city that give the impression of being in a break and where everything seems random. Here starts the struggle in which nature reclaims what it lost to urban planning: the green weed shoots shoots through the asphalt and covers the rusty remains of a devastated industrial area.
