In recent years Moss has primarily worked on a series of large diptychs in different techniques, motifs and style. Some of the works are almost monochrome while others are busily gesticulating. The new series on display at the Småland Art Archive also includes figurative motifs, portraits and landscapes. In connection with the paintings, he has also made sculptures and objects, which in a sense act as “extended frames” to the paintings. The objects often come from his direct surroundings. It could be an old curvy log of black oak, a bowling ball, a missawn timber, or perhaps an unusually long stick. Together with the paintings, they create a kind of communicative environment in which we as viewers are also included — in a whole installation.
Magni Moss (b. 1982) was educated at Umeå University School of Art and the Städeshule in Frankfurt, Germany. Moss has exhibited at several locations in Småland as well as nationally and internationally including at Växjö konsthall, Last Resort Gallery in Copenhagen and MODEL Projects in Vancouver, Canada.
