Artist, craftsman and self-sufficient farmer and forester Markus Vallien is the recipient of Kerstin and Sven Lundh's scholarship in 2020. He is awarded for his ability to give us new perspectives on the relationship between man and nature.

In the scholarship exhibition at the Småland Art Archive in Vandalorum, a piece of nature will be placed indoors in the form of a larger site-built installation. Vallien wants to create a situation where our perception of reality is challenged, renegotiated and reinterpreted. Vallien's artistry explores the relationship between human and nature, often with a stroke of sadness over a bygone nature that has been affected or disappeared due to human exploitation of natural resources. The installation will be an intuitive process based work and change character during the exhibition period.

Vallien was awarded the Kerstin & Sven Lundhs Scholarship 2020 on the grounds that he;

“With an interest in natural processes and in the cross section between man and nature in constant renegotiation, Vallien has developed his own unique artistry. His artistic practice gives us perspectives that set our habitual considerations in motion. The scholarship is awarded to those who, in their artistic work, show an independent attitude and seek their own language.”

Markus Vallien (b. 1969, based in Gissamåla in Småland) is an artist and self-sufficient farmer and forester. Alongside his own practice, he regularly guest lectures at Konstfack in Stockholm. He has previously participated in the art project Residence-in-Nature and shown a larger solo exhibition at the Vida Museum.
